  • Norwegian seabed intervention company uses military-grade container coolers

Scanmudring AS is a Norwegian company that works globally on seabed excavation projects, where they are a trusted partner to the major energy operators and tier-one service contractors for major offshore energy developments.

Scanmudring uses standard-sized containers for operation control centres and for transformer stations, both of which need cooling systems as they are often deployed in hot climate zones, and the electronics in the containers generate heat themselves.

Since 2020,  Scanmudring has been purchasing Dantherm container coolers (AC-M5 and AC-M18 units) to cool both their transformer station containers and their operator containers.

Their previous container coolers were too difficult to handle in the field and required comprehensive modifications of the containers.

Hassle-free cooling

Dantherm’s AC-M units are designed for military and humanitarian purposes. This means they are optimised for easy transportation, quick deployment, and hassle-free maintenance.

Because of the window mounting design they can be easily slid inside the container during transport, simplifying logistics and protecting the units from damage. This is particularly important in busy port environments where there is no space for equipment protruding outside containers.

The coolers don’t require cooling technicians for installation, removal, or repair but can be replaced on-site by the crew themselves. This means that spare units can simply be shipped anywhere in the world, ready to be swapped out if needed. For the company, this minimises downtime and maximises operational efficiency.

Plug-and-play

AC-M18 units are mounted on the roof of operator containers, with the included hoses connecting directly into the existing ventilation system. No modification required.

AC-M5 units are used for cooling containerised transformer units.

Currently, Scanmudring operates with two AC-M18 units and nine AC-M5 units. As they continue to expand, their next delivery will be treated in Dantherm’s workshop to make the units even more resistant to the corrosive effects of sea air. Dantherm Group already has strong expertise in corrosive protection thanks to years of experience with swimming pool environments.

“As an offshore company with projects across the globe, we need reliable equipment that is easy to install and maintain. The coolers from Dantherm are perfect because they don’t take up much space and are pretty much plug and play.”

Benefits

Scanmudring can save valuable time and space through the practical window mounting of container coolers. They also save money on the ease of operation and maintenance that can be carried out without technical assistance.
