Condensation dehumidifiers draw humid air across a refrigerated evaporator coil. This rapidly causes the air to condense, and the moisture is either collected in a removable container or removed via a drain house. Dry, dehumidified air is then reheated and returned to the room.

Adsorption dehumidifiers use desiccant materials, such as silica gel, to attract moisture from humid air streams. The process air is passed through a slowly rotating silica gel rotor. The wet air is ducted away from the room, and dry air is pushed back into the space instead.
