In any large room or enclosure, particularly featuring conditioned air, is going to have layers of temperature. Warm air rises toward the ceiling, while colder, denser air falls to the floor. This can result in temperature differences of around 2ºC for every meter above the floor, which can lead to massive energy loss in buildings with high ceilings.
This is known as stratification. Destratification fans work to create a more consistent temperature balance across a space. Creating vertical convection currents that constantly push large amounts of air through these temperature layers helps create more uniform temperatures in every corner of a room.
